Barry and Sylvia Jankord Student Teaching Scholarship
Awarded annually to 12 students, divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters. Will be awarded to Senior class students during their student teaching semester demonstrating financial need, pursuing an education degree, and who have achieved a 3.00 GPA. Preference given to students who intend to teach in grades K through 8.
Ben & Carol Henry Instrumental Music Scholarship
Awarded to an incoming student who achieved a 2.50 GPA in high school and intends to pursue a Music major. Preference given to a student from South Dakota, but may be from South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, or North Dakota. Selected by the head of the Music Department and the band directors. Student will be required to enroll in 15 credit hours each semester.

Awarded to a Junior or Senior class student pursuing an Education major. Preference will be given to a South Dakota resident from Walworth or Campbell County who has achieved a 3.00 GPA.

BHSU Fallbeck and Timmons Academic Scholarship
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Education. Preference will be given to a student with a 3.00 GPA or higher and who has completed a minimum of 45 credit hours. The recipient will be required to maintain a 3.00 GPA and to submit two essays:
The first, 1,000 words explaining the reason they are attending college, how they chose their major, and their career goals.

BHSU Family Scholarship
- The BHSU employee applicant must be a full time employee and at least a half-time student (minimum 6 credit hours) at BHSU.
- If a child of a BHSU employee, the applicant must be a full time BHSU student (minimum 12 credit hours) at the time of the application.
- All applicants must be in good academic standing; if not, they may reapply with a 2.0 GPA or better (passing grades in 67% of classes).
- The successful applicant will be selected on the basis of greatest need.
- Scholarship funds are divided equally by semester.

Awarded to a Junior or Senior student pursuing a program in Education. Preference will be given to a Spearfish High School graduate. If a Spearfish graduate is not available the recipient must be from western South Dakota.

CinKelVic Uttke Family Scholarship
$1,000 a year for a student from Baker High School. If no Baker students are available, any Black Hills State University students is eligible (the same person could receive the award as a graduating senior and their second through fourth year of college if he or she is deemed the most eligible).

Dale Brownell Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student who is a resident and actively participating in a community or student organization. Preference will be given to Spearfish High School graduates. If a SHS graduate is not available, the recipient must be from western SD. The recipient will be required to maintain a 3.00 GPA.

Awarded to a resident Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student who is pursuing a degree in Business. The recipient will be required to maintain a 3.00 GPA.

Awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need, pursuing a degree in Business Management. Preference will be given to a student whose studies emphasize Entrepreneurship, Finance, or Economics. The recipient will be required to maintain a 3.50 GPA.
David B. Miller Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a non-traditional Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student pursuing a degree in History. The recipient will be required to maintain a 2.00 GPA.
Delger-Krier Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Mathematics or Science Education who graduated from McCook Central High School in Salem, SD. The recipient will be required to maintain a 3.00 GPA.
Derral R. Herbst Scholarship
The recipient must be studying chemistry, zoology, and/or botany with a GPA 2.7 or higher. The recipient must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester offered by BHSU. One half of the scholarship will be awarded in the fall and the other half in the spring.

Awarded to a Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Development or Special Education. The recipient will be required to maintain a 2.7 GPA. Preference will be to a Native American student.

Edith Gutsche Anderson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a new student pursuing a degree in Education. Preference given to a student from Butte or Mead Counties. The recipient will be required to maintain a 3.00 GPA and to enroll in a minimum 15 credit hours each semester. Varsity athletes are not eligible for this award.

Awarded to a Junior or Senior class student pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Preference given to a student who displays characteristics of compassion and a sincere desire to help and encourage every child to reach their greatest potential. Freedom Scholarship
The Freedom Scholarship is a public/private partnership scholarship made available through generous private donations and the State of South Dakota to assist South Dakota students with financial need. Eligible students must:
- Maintain South Dakota Residency
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by the awarding institution
- Meet a minimum 2.00 GPA requirement
- Be pursuing a baccalaureate degree
- Graduate in five years or less
- Commit in writing to live and work in South Dakota for three years post graduation.
- Acknowledge failure to meet any of these requirements will result in the conversion from scholarship to interest-bearing loan
Friends of Music
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Music. Preference will be given to student actively involved in one or more of the following groups: Concert Choir, Concert Band, Black Hills Singers, Black Hills Gold, Jazz Band, Dakota Chamber Orchestra, or Pep Band. Auditions are held February. New freshman applicants must preform live auditions or send in audition tape to the music Department, and must be in the top 40% of their graduating class. Moravec/Stott Outdoor Advertising Needs Based Scholarship
The recipients will be determined by the BHSU Special Scholarships Committee. Preference will be given to those students who do not qualify for a Pell Grant (or other large federal grant program) but have a Student Aid Index no greater than or 1.5 times the annual Pell Grant allocation at the time of scholarship awarding. Preference will also be given to students demonstrating summer employment with family farms, ranches, and businesses. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. The recipient must also enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester offered by BHSU. One half of the scholarship will be awarded in the fall and the other half in the spring.

Awarded to a Junior or Senior class student pursuing a baccalaureate degree. Preference will be given to disabled veterans first, veterans second, or the spouse or child of veterans third. The recipient must maintain a 3.00 GPA and successfully complete a minimum of 30 credit hours each academic year. The recipient will further be required to provide proof of an honorable discharge (DD214) and attend a DAV Chapter 11 meeting once late each semester (November and April) to give an oral presentation on their course of study and how the scholarship has helped them.
